Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Sep 23, 2016 8:30:00 AM

Earlier this week we hosted Innovation ’16 Best Practices in Spend Control – our annual conference, where industry experts provided attendees with a lot of great information to take back to their management and procurement teams.

At the event, several top experts in sourcing and procurement came together for a panel discussion. With the panelists varied backgrounds shining through it made for an interesting panel discussion. The group  – David Golub the President of Golub Consulting Solutions, Dawn Tiura the CEO and President of Sourcing Industry Group and Jimmy LeFever a Research Director at PayStream Advisors – talked about what they consider the most valuable tips for sourcing and procurement success.

Here they are in no particular order:

  1. Education, Education, Education

This is education of yourself, your staff and top management. If we are not constantly learning we’re behind. Look to the news, conferences, category experts…maybe even twitter. Just keep learning – things are changing faster than ever before and it is imperative to know what’s new and trending. Education goes beyond industry knowledge however, you need to educate those in your organization on the sourcing process and solutions leadership endorses.  Which leads to number two…

Conference: Changing How You Approach Spend Control

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Aug 19, 2016 8:15:00 AM

Each year we host executives and procurement pros for a day and a half event packed full of education and networking (so much networking). This year's event is a little different. It's still an intimate gathering of like minded people, but we've expanded the educational side to encompass all things spend control. Innovation '16 is now a partnership of PROACTIS and Intesource!

Join us September 18-20 in the valley of the sun (A.K.A. Scottsdale, Arizona) at the Hotel Valley Ho. We have some great speakers and fun networking functions lined up.

This conference is all about you! Who wouldn't want to attend an event where the focus is on them? Our goal is to provide anyone who oversees, or is involved in, the procurement process with a meaningful educational experience while you make new friends (or as we call them in the business world - new contacts).

Staying in the Know: Ten Procurement Influencers to Follow

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Jun 16, 2016 8:30:00 AM

When you work in procurement, social media might not seem completely related to your job. After all, it’s a platform for reconnecting with old friends, keeping up with what’s going on with family and distant relatives, and posting photos from your most recent vacation, right? Although those notions are true, social media, especially LinkedIn, can be a valuable tool for sourcing teams looking to stay abreast of the latest trends and news impacting their space.

Procurement leaders understand that using social platforms can be a great way to learn from and engage with industry peers and satisfy a thirst for knowledge while balancing a busy schedule.

Is the Strategic Sourcing Process Enhanced with Additional Tools?

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on May 5, 2016 8:00:00 AM

Procurement professionals deploy eSourcing solutions for a number of reason but the most popular reason is for the eAuction and RFx capabilities. They want more streamlined and efficient processes, standardized response formats where they are receiving apples to apples information, all to help facilitate faster analysis and improve record keeping. However, you may be forgetting the benefits of utilizing the other source-to-contract tools in conjunction with your RFx. I’m talking contract management and supplier management

Let’s start with contract management. When you think contract management you probably think finance, legal, and audit groups. And you’d be right. It does provide value to those groups but it should not be overlooked by procurement for a few reasons…

eSourcing: The Trick for Same Category Sustainability

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Feb 18, 2016 8:00:00 AM

You’re already a believer in eSourcing. You've run reverse auctions and maybe even utilized RFIs as well as a wide array of other handy tools that accompany eAuctions. The results you experienced were great - dare we say even amazing? You got the best value - price and quality, you saved time, all of the event information is easily accessible, and you even uncovered a few suppliers you didn’t know were out there.

Now that you've dipped your toe in the eSourcing pond, are you left wondering how to get more out of your tried and true eSourcing events?

You aren't alone. This is a common concern for reverse auction users, and rightly so. After the first strategic sourcing win, you'd expect the value gained from eSourcing that category to dwindle in subsequent events.

2015: Our Top 10 Most Read Blogs by Sourcing & Procurement

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Dec 29, 2015 8:00:00 AM

Who doesn’t love the end of a year? The conclusion of the year bring both a reflection on the period past and a hope for the year ahead. I love the thought of what the future holds. But nothing quite wraps up a year like looking back on all the amazing things that happened – the time spent with loved ones, the adventures, and the new experiences.

I also relish all the ‘best-of’ lists that signal the end of a year is near. While I glance through these lists, I realize the sheer number of things I’ve missed throughout the year. We are often so wrapped up in our own lives that we don’t even notice all the things we’ve overlooked. It’s a great chance to catch up!

If you’re afraid that any of the eSourcing Society's most useful sourcing blog posts might have slipped by you, maybe this will help. These are the top 10 most read posts of 2015.

A Day of Thanks and Gratitude

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Nov 24, 2015 8:00:00 AM

With the holiday season upon us, two words come to mind - thanks and giving. These are two of the best words in the English language coming together to help us celebrate not only the thanksgiving holiday but the end of the year.  Thanks, or gratitude, is one of the most powerful tools we have in our lives. It gives energy to the people who support us, it attracts more of the things we enjoy to our lives, and it can transform the connections in our brain to help us in becoming more creative, happier, and more peaceful.  Gratitude is more than words and more than an expression; it is an attitude or a state of being that one can attain.  To simplify the matter: Gratitude will improve your life.

Gratitude magnifies our experience of the good things, empowering us to enjoy them more thoroughly. And when we are faced with hard times, gratitude helps us endure it with dignity and if we are lucky even humor.

4 Sourcing Secrets for Turning Supply Chain Risks into Opportunities

Posted by Michelle Fombelle on Oct 8, 2015 9:13:39 AM

The supply chain touches every aspect of a company’s performance – revenue, cost, balance sheet, customer service, and compliance – which makes effectively managing risk essential for business success.

But with a globalized supply chain, exposure to risk is increasing tremendously for companies across all industries. One study asserts that 44% of professionals feel the business environment is becoming riskier than it was even a year ago. One hiccup in supply, the onset of a natural disaster, exposure to pathogens, or a factory production slowdown can cause serious ramifications for a company’s supply chain and ultimately its financial performance. Many teams have concerns around how to manage this risk, and aren’t sure whether they’re truly handling these risks effectively.
